Report: Leicester City legend Jamie Vardy emerges as shock target for elite Spanish club

Leicester City legend Jamie Vardy is reportedly wanted by La Liga side Valencia this summer.

The 38-year-old played his 500th and final match for the Foxes earlier this month, scoring his 200th goal for the club during the 2-0 success over Ipswich Town.

Vardy is arguably Leicester's greatest-ever player, helping the East Midlands outfit to Premier League and FA Cup glory over a 13-year spell at Filbert Way.

The veteran performed admirably during his last season at the club, scoring nine goals and providing four assists across 35 league appearances.

Despite the best efforts of Vardy, Leicester were unable to avoid a bottom-three finish and an immediate return to the stresses of the Championship.

Leicester hero Vardy wanted by Valencia?

According to The Sun, a surprise name on the continent has joined the race for Leicester and England star Vardy ahead of the summer trading point.

The report states that Spanish outfit Valencia have made the experienced striker one of their top transfer targets during the upcoming window.

It is understood that Vardy is currently favouring a switch to a Premier League club, however the La Liga side are hoping that the player can be convinced otherwise.

Valencia head coach Carlos Corberan supposedly believes that the 38-year-old would be a great fit for the team's counter-attacking style.

Due to financial problems, Los Che are working on a strict budget this summer, and the arrival of free agent Vardy would help the club spend money on other areas of the squad.

Where else could Vardy end up?

After 13 years at the King Power Stadium in the East Midlands, it is no surprise that Vardy is eyeing up home comforts by remaining in the Premier League.

However, there is plenty of interest for the striker from much further afield, should he wish to experience a lifestyle change before hanging up his boots for good.

Clubs in MLS and the Saudi Pro League are reportedly keen on Vardy, who signed for Leicester from Fleetwood Town for just £1m in May 2012.
