Fabrizio Romano has confirmed what Manchester United told a “top-class” star during a recent transfer meeting as Rúben Amorim’s summer changes get into full swing.

Manchester United’s summer has started with real urgency, as Rúben Amorim moves quickly to reshape the squad in his image ahead of the 2025/26 season.

Jonny Evans, Christian Eriksen, and Victor Lindelöf will all depart when their contracts expire next month. Amorim has also reportedly told Alejandro Garnacho that he is free to find a new club, underlining the ruthless nature of his early decisions.

The new head coach is targeting reinforcements in several areas, with the attacking line and midfield identified as top priorities to improve creativity and control.

United’s recruitment team are focused on signing players who can withstand the Premier League’s physical demands, particularly those with pace and power across the midfield and front line.

What United told Delap in recent transfer meeting

With Matheus Cunha set to sign for the club this week in a £62.5 million deal from Wolverhampton Wanderers, United also engaged in talks to sign Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap, who has a £30 million release clause in his contract.

However, United were not the only club to engage int alks with the 22-year-old, with Everton and Chelsea both speaking with Delap while Newcastle conversed with his agents.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on the situation. He explained that although United cannot offer Champions League football next season, they told Delap that he would become an essential part of their rebuild under Amorim.

“What I can confirm to you is that both Chelsea and Man United already had direct meetings with the player. Everton did the same. Newcastle approached the agents, so all these clubs are in the mixm” Romano said.

“The player is meeting to understand the project, the vision, what could be the best solution for him… and so the player is now assessing all these options.

“Everton are prepared to make a very big financial proposal to the player, then giving him the possibility maybe to leave the club in two or three years, something like that.

“Chelsea can offer Champions League football, [and] Man United offered the possibility obviously to be an important part of their building, with Matheus Cunha coming to the club.”

Delap expected to make final decision this week

With the English striker jetting off to take part in the U21 European Championships next month, Delap reportedly wants his next club picked and his new contract signed before he flies to Slovakia.

Multiple outlets have relayed that the 22-year-old “top-class” talent will decide his future by the end of this week. Although some reports state that Chelsea may be edging United to sign him, Amorim’s club remains confident.

Although Newcastle are interested in the player, star forward Alexander Isak looks likely to remain at the club, and they are in talks with Callum Wilson surrounding a new contract.

Delap wants a guarantee of minutes, which United may be in a better position to offer in comparison to Chelsea amid the club’s potential sale of Rasmus Højlund, should a suitable offer arrive.
