‘Beginning of something…’Ruben Amorim names the one positive from Man Utd’s season

Manchester United have turned the page on their disastrous season and with the post-season tour, the preparation for the next one has begun immediately.

Ruben Amorim will lead his team to two fixtures in Malaysia and Hong Kong before the players depart for the off-season that promises plenty of change.

It is hard to pick out a clear positive from a season where Man United didn’t just end trophyless but were in a genuine discussion for a potential relegation fight.

However, Amorim has picked out one positive that can form the backbone of this team’s success. He saw the beginning of it form this season.

Ruben Amorim on Man Utd’s positive this season

In a season of huge upheaval, there have been some players who have emerged with their reputation intact, or even enhanced in some cases.

Players like Leny Yoro and Amad have shown they can be the future of this club, but more is needed than individual breakouts from some youngsters.

Amorim has stressed from day one that more than the playing squad needs changing at Man Utd. A cultural reset is needed, which can happen without many changes to the playing squad.

He went into detail in his press conference in Malaysia before the first post-season tour, saying that he saw the beginning of the same in the season just finished.

He said: “For some people, it’s hard to understand and see but I think we are improving as a team. That lack of goals punishes us in some games. If I have to choose a positive, it’s that feeling in the stadium with the fans and that’s the beginning of something.”

Erik ten Hag had lost connection with fans

Man Utd fans are arguably the most forgiving bunch in elite football, as evidenced by their cheering off the players and the manager after the last game of the season.

Both, the manager and the players have said throughout the season that they want to give them something in return for their unwavering support, although nothing happened ultimately.

Still, Amorim came in and quickly realised that getting the fans completely back on board was the most important thing since Erik ten Hag had lost that connection.

More than the results, it is that connection which affords the managers a long rope in the job, something which Amorim has mastered.

There is a siege mentality at Old Trafford again and Amorim has played a major role in it. Under Erik ten Hag, results dictate the environment around the club.

Under Amorim, the environment will hopefully cause the results to skyrocket towards success next season.
