Twist in Leeds United’s search for Junior Firpo heir as Man City make approach for PL ace - journalist

Man City have certainly gone off the boil this season. But Pep Guardiola’s side can still deal Leeds United a transfer blow.

Leeds United will take on Man City and all the other so-called ‘big’ Premier League teams next season, after Daniel Farke steered the Whites to promotion from the Championship.

And Farke will certainly back his side to cause a few upsets in the top flight next time round after his Leeds United side proved formidable in the Championship, scoring an incredible 95 goals and earning a club record 100 points.

What’s more is that Leeds United will spend £100million on new players this summer, with some potentially exciting names set to make the move to Elland Road and make the Whites into a solid Premier League team for many years to come.

But the club will still face some uphill battles in the transfer market. That’ll be especially so in this first summer with players not yet knowing how Leeds will fare in the top flight next season.

Man City ask about Rayan Ait-Nouri as Leeds United eye Wolves’ Hugo Bueno

Already we’re seeing Leeds fall short in certain transfer pursuits. Now, the race to sign Hugo Bueno could quickly see Farke’s side fall behind as Man City make a move to sign his Wolves teammate Rayan Ait-Nouri.

Amid the uncertainty surrounding Junior Firpo‘s future at Elland Road, it’s been reported that Leeds United want to sign Bueno from Wolves, who’s impressed on loan at Feyenoord this season: so much so that Feyenoord are desperate to re-sign Bueno again this summer, either on loan or permanently.

But Fabrizio Romano has now revealed that Man City have asked about potentially signing Ait-Nouri from Wolves this summer, and that could quickly spell the end of Leeds’ hopes of signing Bueno this summer.

Graeme Bailey’s verdict on Rayan Ait-Nouri spells bad news for Leeds United

Ait-Nouri leaving Wolves for Man City or any other club should be worrying for Leeds United as transfer expert Graeme Bailey has already suggested that Wolves would only sell one of Ait-Nouri or Bueno this summer, and that Ait-Nouri’s future would heavily dictate what happens with Bueno.

Bailey said on Ait-Nouri’s Wolves future earlier in the year: “Wolves aren’t saying that Ait-Nouri is definitely going to go but there’s a real chance he does. They’re definitely having conversations about Bueno. If Ait-Nouri stays, that’s a different conversation. But I think [Bueno] will be back from what I’m hearing.”

With Man City and potentially other teams in the race to sign Ait-Nouri this summer, expect Wolves to be determined to keep Bueno around until the situation with Ait-Nouri is decided at least.

With Firpo looking more and more likely to leave and now a move for Bueno in doubt, Leeds United’s left-back positions could quickly become a problematic one.
