Max Dowman grabbed his first goal of the U17 European Championships and assisted another, but despite England beating the Czech Republic 4-2 they exited the tournament at the group stage in heartbreaking fashion.
It took our academy product five minutes to open the scoring in the game with a superb goal, picking the ball up on the byline and dancing past a defender to get inside the box, before slipping the ball into the net from a tight angle.
Then 10 minutes later he played a perfect pass from inside the centre circle into the path of Alejandro Rodriguez to score a second, before further goals arrived from Harry Howell and Harry Gray for the Young Lions 4-0 ahead at the break.
They needed Belgium to drop points against Italy, and they did so by losing, but also required a three-goal swing in goal difference to go through. But after the break, Martin Palascak pulled one back shortly before Max was replaced, and then in the 89th minute Hugo Sochurek put another past Jack Porter to send England out of the tournament in Romania.
Both Gunners played all three matches, with England drawing 1-1 with Belgium before losing 4-2 to Italy.
