Real Madrid make official what fans quietly hoped would happen

Real Madrid have seen a lot of departures recently.

They keep breaking their fans' heart over and over again. First it was Carlo Ancelotti, then Luka Modric and Lucas Vazquez were also given ovations after the win over Real Sociedad on Saturday.

It has been one gut-punch after another, and it seems to have not stopped even now, even after Xabi Alonso's arrival.

Real Madrid's youth and reserve teams are always of interest to the fans, and Raul is the manager of the reserves right now.

He has been at the club for a very long time, and has managed Castilla since 2019 - which is abnormal for any coach.

Usually, managers leave after a year or two for greener pastures, but Raul has overstayed his welcome.

Real Madrid make official what fans quietly hoped would happen

In fact, it is at the point where fans were basically begging him to leave - even without knowing the full picture - and he has now.

Real Madrid made an official announcement recently that Raul will be leaving his role with the Castilla team with immediate effect.

It is definitely good news and Raul should have left a long time ago. However, because of this, Raul has a bad rep of being a coach deemed not good enough by fans.

That is simply not true. Yes, he overstayed far longer than he should have, but make no mistake: Raul is still a great coach.

If he seriously wants to get into top-level coaching, he would be great at it. Just because he stayed for too long does not make him a bad coach.

Raul has not been given resources as before, and still has managed to keep this mediocre Castilla side in the top half of the division.

I mean, some people thought they would go down, and one big reason why they have not is Raul. He knows how to get the best out of his players, and that is what he did with Castilla in these last two seasons.

Raul has had offers to go to other clubs in the past - and he has turned them down. Maybe he should not have, maybe it would have been better for him to leave sooner. But Raul is still a great coach in his own right.
