Mohamed Salah has been one of Liverpool’s biggest stars in the modern era. But not long ago, his future at the club was hanging by a thread. A big-money offer from Saudi Arabia almost tempted him away — until the fans stepped in.
In a recent interview, Salah revealed just how close he came to leaving Liverpool last season. His contract was nearing its end.
The Saudi Pro League came knocking with an eye-watering deal. For a moment, it looked like the Egyptian King might pack his bags for the desert.
But then came a powerful reminder of what really mattered: the fans.
“I thought it was a good opportunity,” Salah admitted. “My contract was about to finish with the club… there was a very strong chance that I would go there.”
He added, “But in the end, we reached an agreement with the club.”

While talks between Salah and the club carried on behind the scenes, it was the voice of the supporters that made a big impact.
Salah, who has worn the red shirt since 2017, spoke about the pressure that fans put on the club’s decision-makers.
“Of course, they are part of the pressure on the administration,” he said. “From day one, I knew that they wanted me to stay… in a certain way they had a big role.”
It wasn’t just chants and banners. It was years of loyalty and love. Salah recognized that connection and decided to stick around.
He now has two more years on his Liverpool deal — and he’s not ruling out more.
“I think I can play until the age of 39 or 40,” Salah said. “But I am happy here in Liverpool and I am staying here for the next two years. Then we will see what to do next.”
