Liverpool's Virgil van Dijk has extended his deepest sympathies to the victims of the harrowing car incident that occurred at the culmination of Liverpool's open top bus parade on Monday. A 53-year-old local man was apprehended after a vehicle ploughed into a crowd on Water Street, leaving 47 people injured amidst celebrations of Liverpool's historic 20th championship win.
The tragic event saw 27 individuals rushed to hospital, with two, including a child, sustaining serious injuries.
Van Dijk, who was aboard the coach during the festivities, took to social media to express his solidarity with those affected, stating: "We are all with you".
The Dutch defender shared an evocative image of the Liver Building bathed in red smoke from the parade on his Instagram Story, accompanied by heartfelt words: "My thoughts are with everyone affected.
"Praying for a speedy recovery for everyone who suffered injuries.
"We are all with you."
He concluded his touching message with a love heart emoji.
The Liverpool skipper's compassionate outreach follows teammate Joe Gomez's response, who echoed the club's sentiments on his Instagram Story, saying: "My thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected right now. YNWA."
