Victor Orta may be job hunting again – 2 years after Leeds United exit, Sevilla want him out

Victor Orta left Leeds United just before their relegation from the Premier League was confirmed in 2023. Following that relegation, it became apparent that multiple members of the squad had been handed loan escape clauses, meaning they were able to leave on loan rather than play in the Championship.

The Spaniard had moved on from Leeds United by July, when he was appointed in the same role at Sevilla. Monchi had just left for Aston Villa, and there was a power struggle at the club which benefitted Orta in terms of giving him a lot of control.

Sevilla finished the 2023/24 season in 14th, and this year they dropped to 17th, just one place and one point above relegation. It is clearly unacceptable for such a club and transfer business has played a big part in Sevilla’s descent down the table.

[Estadio Deportivo](https://www.estadiodeportivo.com/futbol/sevilla-fc/caos-con-victor-orta-sevilla-20250527-496782.html), the club’s local sports newspaper, reports there’s now ‘chaos’ around the former Leeds United sports director. That’s because the club has decided they want him gone, but nobody has told him yet.

The newspaper, after explaining the information has come from their sources at the club, state: _‘Confidence in Victor Orta’s work has been completely lost and the intention is for him not to continue, but the truth is that, when it comes down to it, no one has directly communicated to the Madrid sporting director that his time at Nervión has come to an end.’_

Therefore, he’s continuing as if nothing has changed. He’s aware of the feeling behind the scenes but isn’t going to do anything until someone has the guts to tell him.

One of the issues is that Orta still has a year left on his contract and if they sacked him, rather him walking, they’d have to pay compensation. On top of that, the club and squad is in such a mess they’re finding it hard to tempt a replacement.

Maybe Leeds United could take a look and see if there’s any transfer bargains to be had at Sevilla.
