Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United squad for the 2025/26 season will have a unique characteristic not seen in nearly 40 years.
After a hugely disappointing 2024/25 season, Ruben Amorim is under huge pressure to deliver success next season.
Losing the Europa League final to Tottenham means United will head into 2025/26 with no European football and limited finances.
Ineos are expected to overhaul United’s squad after a 15th-placed finish in the Premier League, and there have already been three departures confirmed after the 2-0 win over Aston Villa on the weekend.

Jonny Evans exit ends Sir Alex Ferguson streak at Man United
The three exits already confirmed this summer include Christian Eriksen, Victor Lindelof and Jonny Evans – who spent 11 years at Old Trafford across two different spells.
Evans was a leader in the United dressing room, but Amorim decided now was the best time to part ways with the 37-year-old defender.
As a result, United will head into a season without a player who has played under Sir Alex Ferguson for the first time since he joined as manager in 1986 – nearly 40 years ago.
More United News
Ferguson retired in 2013 after winning his 13th Premier League trophy at United. Since then, United have failed to get their hands on the trophy again.
David de Gea was another United player who started his Old Trafford career under Ferguson, but his exit in 2023 saw another Ferguson favourite depart.
Ruben Amorim must start a new chapter in Man United history
Despite his disappointing results since arriving in November, Amorim retains full support from Ineos and the United fanbase.
Amorim’s rousing speech at Old Trafford inspired belief that he can turn things around at United, but there is huge pressure for him to hit the ground running next season.
Ultimately, Amorim wants to win the Premier League as United head coach – if he achieves that he’ll be the first manager to do so since Ferguson.

Since taking charge of the Red Devils, Amorim has listened to Ferguson’s advice, and his honesty and transparency to the fans have made him an extremely likeable figure.
United will not be challenging for the title next season, but Amorim has spotted improvements in his side and with no European distractions, it could bode well for the Portuguese coach.
