Ruben Amorim admits issue for young Man Utd players, it’s clearly impacted Alejandro Garnacho

Ruben Amorim’s silent fallout with Alejandro Garnacho after the Europa League final figures to dominate the discussion this transfer window and he’s now admitted to an issue for young Man Utd players.

A big reason why Ruben Amorim was attractive as a managerial option for Man Utd was because of his promotion of youth players.

Amorim handed many debuts at Sporting, players who have gone on to become world-class either at Sporting or elsewhere.

He’s now diagnosed an issue that young players at Man Utd face which makes replicating the same difficult. It’s clearly impacted Alejandro Garnacho as well.

Ruben Amorim’s issue for Man Utd youngsters

It can be argued that the current batch of Man Utd youngsters is one of the brightest batches in recent history, and trophies back it up.

The U18s won three trophies last season and went head-to-head with the Man City U18s in the league this season, buoyed by many brilliant performers.

Players like Godwill Kukonki, James Scanlon, Jaydan Kamason, and Jack Moorhouse made the Man Utd senior squad this season, albeit without making an appearance.

Amorim has been extremely reticent about throwing the youngsters into the deep end, especially in a chaotic team, but he might just have revealed the real reason he’s been taking it slow.

He said: “Sometimes we push too much in beginning, social media, have all this pressure around kids, hard to control. We give them tools, protect them, this is a massive club. That is an issue, sometimes we put the kids on pedestal, we have to change that.”

Alejandro Garnacho a victim of Amorim’s observation

It wasn’t too long ago that Garnacho was announcing himself to the senior team with his thrilling pace, flashy dribbles, and wonder goals.

He had immediately become Erik ten Hag’s go-to attacker despite being raw, and the fans took a liking to his fearless style of play.

However, it can be argued that a raw and unpolished 18-year-old shouldn’t be that important to a team in the first place, especially not an unsettled one.

Just like Amorim observed now, it led to an inflated sense of belief in Garnacho. Naturally a confident player, he believed he deserved to start every game and play every minute because that’s what he was given from the moment he broke through.

Instead of being drip-fed into a stable team and a dressing room filled with leadership, the then-teenager became a talisman out of sheer necessity when he wasn’t ready to take that role.

Amorim is determined to not repeat the mistakes previous managers made with the likes of Garnacho, or even Marcus Rashford to some extent.
