Kansas City Chiefs Rookie WR Jalen Royals Dynasty Outlook

Jalen Royals was drafted in the fourth round of the 2025 NFL Draft by the Kansas City Chiefs. He becomes another weapon for Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs offense that had a down season last year. How will he fit into the offense, and what is Royals’ dynasty outlook?

Dynasty Outlook for Jalen Royals

Current Production

Royals had limited production in college for Utah State, only having two years of real playing time. He had a great 2023 season, catching 71 passes for 1080 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns. He had a good start to the 2024 season before missing the final five games with a foot injury. In just seven games, he had 55 receptions for 834 yards and six touchdowns. He averaged 15.2 yards per catch in each season. Players with limited playing time are a concern for the NFL, as they still have many things to learn and develop with their game and skill set.

Royals Dynasty Price

According to KeepTradeCut, a website that crowdsources dynasty values from players who use the site, Royals is the WR65. He was the WR88 before the Draft, so fantasy managers love his landing spot with the Chiefs, causing his ranking to skyrocket. He is ranked behind Cedric Tillman, Marvin Mims, and Rashod Bateman, while ranked just ahead of Adonai Mitchell, Romeo Doubs, and Jalen Coker. Most of these guys in the same range were not startable players in fantasy and dynasty last season, so at the moment, Royals is a deep bench stash. He is being drafted in the early third round of rookie dynasty drafts. Other wide receivers drafted around him are Jaylin Noel and Kyle Williams.

The Chiefs have many great pass-catching weapons. Rashee Rice should be back from a season-ending injury. It is looking unlikely that he will face his pending suspension this season. When Rice was on the field, he was very productive. His weekly fantasy finishes last year: WR14, WR16, and WR3. Going back to 2023, in his last nine games, he has seven finishes inside the top 16.

Xavier Worthy finished the year strongly, with three top-20 fantasy finishes in the final three weeks. Marquise “Hollywood” Brown also missed most of the year with an injury, but came back for the final couple of weeks and had a role in the offense. The Chiefs also still have JuJu Smith-Schuster. Of course, veteran tight end Travis Kelce will play a pivotal role in the offense. It is hard to see where the targets will be for Royals with this much competition.

Kelce’s time is coming to an end, and Brown will be a free agent after this year. However, Rice is signed for two more seasons, and you have to imagine the Chiefs will want to sign him to an extension. Worthy has three years left plus a club option. Rice and Worthy could be the top two pass catchers for Mahomes for a long time, limiting the opportunities for Royals.

Should You Draft Jalen Royals in Dynasty Leagues?

I am passing on Royals in dynasty drafts, and instead drafting Kyle Williams, Tory Horton, or a deep flyer running back. Rice and Worthy will demand too many targets for Royals to see a significant role on this team in the future. A lot of fantasy managers are excited about him being on the Chiefs and getting to play with Mahomes, but there will just be a lack of targets. Therefore, I am avoiding Royals in dynasty drafts.
