Bayern Munich exec says club still has strong appeal despite Florian Wirtz miss

It has been a whirlwind of controversy since last Friday when it became apparent that Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz had rejected Bayern Munich in favor of Liverpool FC.

Bayern Munich CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen attempted to weather the storm with a statement to Tz, but could be overestimating the club’s place in the world football landscape.

“Much more has been written than spoken. FC Bayern is one of the absolute top clubs in Europe and the world. Our appeal among fans, but also among players, is enormous. The fact that not every player will end up with us is simply part of the package; it’s the same for other top clubs,” Dreesen told Tz (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “But everyone knows: With FC Bayern, you can win everything every year; you’re involved in every competition – the upcoming Club World Cup is a good example of that. Just look at which clubs are represented there – and, most of all, which [clubs] aren’t.

“The best European clubs are competing there – including FC Bayern. Our appeal, sporting ambitions, and economic power are well known to all top players around the world.”

Missing on Wirtz was definitely a major blow to the club. Now, it will regroup and hope to find another impact player to help bolster the roster for the 2025/26 season.
