The AMAs used to be held in November, but there was a LOT of blah blah blah surrounding their ownership and they took a few years off before coming back last night. I’m not sure Memorial Day is great day for an awards show — not because it’s unseemly, or whatever, but because I think people are not checked in for awards shows on a holiday where Americans traditionally go to a barbeque or a pool party or a baseball game, or might be travelling home from the first trip of Summer Observed, or watching the NBA playoffs. The red carpet here sort of bears that out. For every Ciara and Shaboozey and Tiffany Haddish, we got several less A-list folks…who we are talking about, so maybe this scheduling worked out great for them. (A couple of bigger names showed up but didn’t walk the carpet. Rude!)
