Saudi Pro League club Al Hilal have reportedly made a last ditch ultimatum to Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes to try and sign him before the Club World Cup in the United States of America.
Fernandes has been the one player for United who has ended this season with universal praise after registering an impressive 19 goals and 20 assists for the club across all competitions. However, this form has not gone unnoticed by one of the world's richest clubs Al Hilal.
The team, which currently has former Premier League stars Aleksandar Mitrovic and Ruben Neves in their squad, are preparing for next month's Club World Cup and are said to have identified Fernandes as a target. In a last gasp bid to get a deal moving before the tournament kicks off, GiveMeSport claims that the Portuguese midfielder has been given a huge offer.
It is reported that Al Hilal are willing to pay Fernandes £700,000 per week to join the club which works out at a staggering £36.4m per year in wages. However, the overall package could rise to £65m per year once added incentives such as accommodation, flights, signing-on fee and bonuses, both individual and team, are accounted for.
Fernandes is said to have until Thursday to decide on whether he will take up the offer to join Al Hilal. If he does, then talks would start with United over a transfer fee which could range up to an eye-watering £120m.
Speculation about the United man's future has been rife since the Europa League final defeat to Tottenham Hotspur. Post-match, Fernandes admitted that he would stay at United until a point where the board decided to 'cash in' on his services.
Ruben Amorim has been adamant that he would not want to see his captain leave though. In April, he said his fellow countryman 'would not be going anywhere' this summer.
He added to that on Tuesday morning in his press conference before the post-season tour begins. "You can see by the performance, the leadership, the passion he has for the game, it’s really important," Amorim explained.
"Especially in these kind of moments. The last game the team was without pressure, they performed quite well, everybody wants the ball but we had some difficult moments and in those difficult moments you can see that Bruno is the guy that takes responsibility.
"He should be (taking responsibility) because he’s the captain, he’s experienced, he’s really important for us and really important for what we want to build with this team."
