Looking at the Kansas City Chiefs' options at receiver for the 2025 season, the biggest question mark remains Rashee Rice. If the star receiver is healthy and allowed to play, the franchise has reason to feel great about the position. However, if the league opts to suspend Rice or last year's injury takes longer than expected, the team must continue to search for upgrades for Patrick Mahomes. It grows tiring watching the quarterback continually asked to elevate marginal talent.
None are more fit for this description than third-year receiver and Clemson alum Justyn Ross. The pass catcher has only 53 career receiving yards in two seasons. If you're unable to do better than this with Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes, it seems unlikely there is going to be much of a career for the receiver. Hollywood Brown, Xavier Worthy, JuJu Smith-Schuster, Skyy Moore, and Jalen Royals are all clearly far above the third-year pro.
Justyn Ross Could be an Early Kansas City Chiefs Roster Cut During Camp and Preseason Action

Ross finds himself competing with Nikkio Remigio and Tyquan Thornton for the final spot at the position. It wouldn't be at all surprising to see the team continue to bring in potential fits as well. With the future uncertain for Rice, the Chiefs would be wise to attempt to bring in an additional veteran target or consider the trade market.
As unlikely as it is, there are still rumors of Tyreek Hill potentially being on the move. Whether it is something as splashy as a trade for Hill or [as mundane as signing Amari Cooper,](https://kckingdom.com/veteran-wr-is-waiting-for-chiefs-to-save-him-from-free-agency-01jttsr2f31n) an additional move wouldn't come as a surprise. All of this adds up to a pivotal offseason for Ross, who is barely hanging onto his roster spot as is.
There simply hasn't been enough impact or growth for a player who was expected to have a chance to play a role when first joining the organization. The team's lack of depth at the position for the past two seasons and Ross still being unable to make an impact is extremely telling. It suggests the pass catcher is not only on his way out of Kansas City but the league altogether. Barring a huge camp and preseason, it appears it is time to turn the page from Justyn Ross.
