Jordan Henderson and Andy Robertson have both shared their relief at the reception Trent Alexander-Arnold received during his final Liverpool appearance. The Reds vice-captain confirmed he would leave the club at the end of his contract earlier this month, and is set to join Real Madrid on a Bosman transfer.
Supporters did not react well to Alexander-Arnold’s announcement, and the defender was loudly booed during his first appearance since confirming his decision to leave as Liverpool drew 2-2 with Arsenal.
His name was greeted by boos when read out ahead of kick-off, with the defender receiving the same treatment when introduced as a substitute.

His every touch would also go on to be booed and whistled as supporters make their unhappiness known, with the reaction prompting heated debate in the wider footballing community.
Alexander-Arnold was left unused for Liverpool’s penultimate game of the season away at Brighton & Hove Albion, but was introduced at half-time as the Reds finished the campaign with a 1-1 draw at home to Crystal Palace ahead of their trophy presentation.
Fortunately for the Liverpool vice-captain, there was no repeat against the Eagles as he received a hero’s reception - both when brought on and when celebrating after the final whistle with his winner’s medal and the Premier League trophy.
And both Henderson and Robertson shared their delight at the reception Alexander-Arnold received in his final appearance for the club.
Henderson posted a picture alongside Alexander-Arnold, who was wearing his winner’s medal, on his Instagram story as he wrote: “Glad you got the send-off you deserve”, before tagging his former Liverpool team-mate and adding both a trophy and love heart emoji.
Meanwhile, Robertson insisted Liverpool will ‘go on without’ Alexander-Arnold as he paid tribute to his team-mate.
“The send-off he got was special and that’s what he deserves,” he told Premier League Productions. “I know people were angry at Arsenal and things like that.
“You can’t blame them to an extent but I’m glad today, the cheer he got when he came on, the cheer he got after the game, the cheer he got when he lifted the trophy. That’s what he deserves for 20 years at this football club.
“We wish him all the best for his next chapter in life. And this club will go on without him, it always does, and he’ll go on without us.
“I’m sure he’ll go on to win even more trophies but it’s a nice way to send off with him winning the trophy, lifting it in front of the Kop and getting the cheer he deserves.”
