Arsenal players respond as Jorginho confirms exit in emotional update

Jorginho has confirmed his expected departure from Arsenal by posting a lengthy video of his highlights at the club to Instagram.

The Italy international joined the Gunners from Chelsea in January 2023 and went on to play a key role under Mikel Arteta. Announcing his exit, alongside multiple clips of him representing the club, he wrote: Thank you, Arsenal [red heart emoji]."

Having signed a two-and-a-half year contract upon joining, his current deal expires at the end of June. However, as he has agreed to join Brazilian club Flamengo, his time at the club will conclude sooner than expected with an agreement struck that allows him to feature in the upcoming Club World Club.

Riccardo Calafiori and Declan Rice are among the Arsenal stars to have already sent heartfelt messages to 33-year-old. The latter replied: "Pleasure to play with you brother [red heart emoji]."

Jorginho was denied the perfect farewell this past Sunday as he remained an unused substitute in the 2-1 win away at Southampton. Kieran Tierney meanwhile, who is also expected to leave, got to say the perfect goodbye as he 63 minutes and scored.

A potentially serious injury saw his minutes limited in the final weeks of the season but he appeared for the final few moments of Arsenal's last home game of the season against Newcastle and he was given an excellent reception at St Mary's Stadium after clapping the travelling supporters.

More midfield announcements are expected in due course with a deal to sign Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad all but wrapped up. Thomas Partey will either see his exit confirmed or a new contract agreed as he sees his current deal expire next month.

football.london understands that extension talks have taken place and that Arteta wants to have both him and Zubimendi in his squad for next season.

Alongside that, a striker, wide forward, defender and back-up goalkeeper are also expected to arrive at Emirates Stadium. Viktor Gyokeres, Benjamin Sesko, Nico Williams, Rodrygo, Bryan Mbeumo and Joan Garcia are just a few names linked to filling those voids.
