A man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, dangerous driving offences and driving while unfit through drugs in connection with an incident in the city centre on Monday, Merseyside Police confirmed today. A car ploughed into people on Water Street following the Liverpool FC Premier League victory parade yesterday evening.

Merseyside Police were contacted just after 6pm after receiving reports that a car had hit a number of people on Water Street in the city centre. A large emergency service presence attended at scene with police vehicles, fire engines, ambulances stationed around the Water Street area.

At least 65 people were injured as a car collided with pedestrians. Two people - an adult and a child - sustained serious injuries in the incident.

Earlier today, Liverpool City Region Metro Mayor Steve Rotheram said that four people remained "very, very ill" in hospital.

A large emergency service presence remains at the scene today. Forensic officers have been on Water Street as enquiries are ongoing.

In a press conference at Merseyside Police headquarters today, Detective Chief Superintendent Karen Jaundrill confirmed the man, from West Derby, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, dangerous driving and driving unfit through drugs.
