If there's one word to best describe this offseason's Jaire Alexander-Packers drama, I'd probably pick _boring._ This NFL offseason's been full of star defensive players who seemingly bluff about actually wanting to leave their teams – so in that sense, maybe I shouldn't be surprised – but still: it's been boring. It's been so boring. Cryptic tweets from beat writers that ended up being kinda inaccurate can only feed you for so long.

But, in an equally fun and unexpected twist, we officially have action. There is, in theory at least, movement on the Alexander-Packers saga. Finally. [The report comes from The Athletic's Matt Schneidman](https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6385119/2025/05/27/packers-restructured-contract-jaire-alexander/), who's reporting that the team has reached out to Alexander and his reprensation with a restructured contract proposal. It's not much, but beggars can't be choosers and it sure beats content listicles.
The Packers and Jaire Alexander might be getting close to a restructered contract agreement
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"According to a source with knowledge of the situation, the Packers have proposed a restructured contract to Alexander, which tangibly demonstrates their interest in retaining the two-time All-Pro cornerback during an offseason in which they have been open to trading him. Alexander and his agent, John Thornton of Roc Nation, have not agreed to a restructuring yet. Alexander, 28, wants to remain in Green Bay and has two years remaining on a then-record contract extension he signed in 2022 for $21 million annually ... Alexander participated in the voluntary first week of the offseason program, but that was virtual because of the draft being held in Green Bay. He has not yet reported to Lambeau Field for in-person voluntary offseason work as his future with the team remains uncertain, but he plans to attend mandatory minicamp on June 10, if not before, even if his contract situation isn’t resolved, according to a source."
That's not nothing! It also sounds like, reading between the lines, there's maybe a world where Alexander and his team aren't totally opposed to the idea? It just says they _haven't_ agreed to one yet, not that they won't. The fact that there's concrete reporting that he now wants to stay in Green Bay feels notable too. That was, uh, not seemingly the case when last season ended. He's even back at voluntary workouts! That sure seems like a player who wants to figure things out and stick around.
It might finally be happening. But now what are we going to hyper-fixate on all summer?
