Sporting Director Mitchell to leave Newcastle United

Newcastle said that Mitchell will be leaving “with the club’s best wishes” and added: “The Board would like to express its sincere thanks to him for his professionalism and diligent service.”

During Mitchell’s year at St James’ Park, the Magpies won their first major trophy in 70 years by beating Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final and also qualified for next season’s Champions League by finishing fifth in the Premier League.

Before joining Newcastle, he held senior roles at Southampton, Tottenham Hotspur, RB Leipzig, Red Bull Soccer International and AS Monaco, where he worked from June 2020 to the spring of 2023. While at the French club, he was responsible for devising and implementing a long-term development plan and transforming its performance and profile, as well as implementing improvements at sister club Cercle Brugge.

He replaced Dan Ashworth at St James’ Park last July after his long drawn-out move to Manchester United.
