Scott Drew and Baylor aren't wasting any time with the class of 2026. Tuesday, the Bears got on the board with one of the top small forward prospects in the rising senior class when Elijah Williams committed.
The son of former NBA player and NBA Coach of the Year Monty Williams, the 6-foot-6 small forward at San Antonio (Texas) TMI Episcopal currently ranks No. 44 nationally and it's clear that he thinks highly of his future head coach.
"Coach Drew is an awesome coach and awesome guy," Williams told 247Sports earlier this month. "He has been really connected with me, which is really important. He has taken time just to get to know me, and he believes in me as a player, and that's all I can really ask for."
Blessed with strong physical tools, Williams is a very good all-around player. He has a well-developed post up game, he can step out and make defenders pay from the three-point line and he's becoming a much improved ball handler.
So far this spring, Williams is having a productive run for JL3 in Nike's EYBL where he is averaging 19.8 points and 5.4 rebounds per game.
Williams is Baylor's first commitment from the class of 2026 and feels like he's really starting to grow as a player as he prepares for his senior season.
"I think the biggest thing was being more comfortable with the ball and being the primary ball-handler," said Williams. "So I was getting my own shots and becoming a better three-level scorer.
"I think I'm just an all-around player. I feel like I can do everything."
