Wolves now have their very own N'Golo Kante after what’s come out about £15m player - opinion

Vitor Pereira has several talented players within his ranks, with one Wolves player even earning comparisons to N’Golo Kante.

Man United-linked Matheus Cunha often takes the headlines for Wolves, with his dazzling displays catching the eye at Molineux.

Rayan Ait-Nouri has also impressed this season, as the Algerian attracts interest from the Premier League’s elite.

But when it comes to ranking Wolves’ most important player, you could argue that neither of those players can claim that title, with Joao Gomes’ Kante-like performances making him a more than viable candidate for top spot.

Joao Gomes is performing like N’Golo Kante

Gomes was immense against Brentford last weekend, notching an impressive eight tackles on the day – the sort of stat which has started to become a regular practice for the 24-year-old.

The Brazilian was signed in January 2023 for £15m (BBC Sport) and has since gone on to take his game to a different level under Pereira.

With countless tackles and interceptions, Gomes has transformed himself into an almost Kante-like figure at Molineux – something which has been replicated by the midfielder’s impressive stats.

As shown by the stats above, Gomes managed to win possession a staggering 200 times across the season, ranking two places above midfield partner Andre.

The Brazilian was also one of only five Premier League players to make over 100 tackles across the season, sitting third in the list ahead of the likes of Moises Caicedo.

Wolves need to bolster midfield options this summer

Despite the Brazilian pairing’s impressive performances, Pereira will still recognise the need for further midfield reinforcements.

Gomes, for example, has played virtually every game for Wolves this season, mainly due to a lack of viable options in the middle of the park.

Andre 35 (31) 0 0

Barring the South American duo, Wolves are seriously lacking in options in central midfield, with the likes of Tommy Doyle considered not good enough by Pereira.

With this in mind, Fosun would be wise to put their hands in their pockets and get some more midfield legs through the door this summer.
