Matheus Cunha has dropped the latest hint that he is about to part ways with Wolverhampton Wanderers with an emotional message to the club.
Reports suggest that the Brazilian is closing in on a £62.5 million move to Manchester United, with the club triggering a release clause in his contract. Cunha is said to have agreed a five-year deal with the club with the option of an extra year.
The Manchester Evening News reported last month that the Wolves star was hopeful of making the switch to Old Trafford this summer. The 26-year-old now looks likely to be playing for United next season.
Cunha has been a standout player for Wolves this season, scoring 15 goals in 32 appearances for the side who flirted with relegation in the first half of the season. After the final game of the season against Brentford he appeared to say his own goodbye to the fans at Molineux.
He has since sent a heartfelt message on social media thanking the club as he was awarded the annual player of the season award.
The forward has now sent another message to hint that his time at Wolves is coming to an end. On what is his 26th birthday, the official Wolves Instagram account has shared a video of Cunha’s interaction with fans following the final game of the season, where the crowd are signing his song.
In the caption they wrote: “The birthday boy. Matheus Cunha on my mind.” along with cake and music note emojis.
Cunha then responded in the replies by writing: “I can’t thank you enough for so much.” He added a red heart and fire emoji.
He has also shared the video onto his own Instagram story.
The message is the latest hint that a move to United may be getting closer. Cunha joined Wolves from Atletico Madrid, originally on loan in January 2023, before the move was made permanent the following summer.
