With the season officially in the books for Liverpool, attention turns to the summer transfer window and preparing for a Premier League title defence in 2025-26. With Arne Slot’s Reds having wrapped the league with a month to spare, though, there’s already been plenty of movement on that front.
As expected, it appears that 24-year-old Dutch-born, English-trained right back Jeremie Frimpong will be their first signing, with Liverpool having agreed to trigger the Leverkusen star’s €35M release clause and the player having already agreed personal terms and passed at least the first part of his medical.
Now, according to Sky Sports, Frimpong has landed in England to put the finishing touches on his move. Frimpong caught the eye of Liverpool scouts as a youngster AFC Clayton in Lancashire but in the end joined Manchester City’s academy, spending time there and on loan at Celtic before moving to Germany.
He has since spent four-and-a-half seasons with Leverkusen, with the exceptionally rapid right back establishing himself as one of the best players in Europe for progressing the ball on the ground—a stark difference to the departing Trent Alexander-Arnold’s prowess at progression through passing.
Frimpong is expected to be joined at Liverpool by Leverkusen teammate Florian Wirtz, who is likely to end up the player tasked with replacing Alexander-Arnold’s progressive passing from more central areas. Negotiations with Bournemouth to sign left back Milos Kerkez are also believed to be ongoing.
