Viktor Gyokeres Sporting CP
Sporting CP
In the previous few days, Arsenal were supposedly leading the race to sign Benjamin Sesko but according to the latest report, the Gunners have now put in a formal offer for Viktor Gyokeres.
As per the latest update, Arsenal have met Gyokeres’ agent Hasan Cetinkaya and presented an offer for the Sporting CP striker. The North London side are willing to pay €70 million plus bonuses and the player’s agent will now forward this message to Sporting and see how they react.
Sporting are ready to let go of Viktor Gyokeres for a fee of around €75 million and that’s exactly what Arsenal are offering. In any other case, this would have been a straightforward bit of business but with a series of other clubs interested in him, Sporting will not hurry themselves into making a decision. The 26-year-old has a slightly higher release clause and with his contract set to expire in 2028, the Portuguese side can afford to play the waiting game.
Viktor Gyokeres or Benjamin Sesko: Who suits Arsenal’s needs better?
Earlier this week, there were reports that Arsenal are ready to spend €100 million on Benjamin Sesko and the RB Leipzig man was their focal point. However, that’s clearly not the case because they are simultaneously chasing Viktor Gyokeres as well.
We had discussed how Arsenal were overvaluing Benjamin Sesko at €100 million but those rumours might not have been totally true because they have been a lot more tactful when dealing with Gyokeres.
Among the two strikers, going after the Sporting man makes sense all day long because the forward is a much more seasoned pro and he’s spent time in England as well. Both are quite similar in terms of their playing style but Mikel Arteta needs someone who can come in and make an instant impact.
Benjamin Sesko has had two good seasons with RB Leipzig, scoring 18 and 21 goals respectively but Gyokeres has netted 97 goals in his previous two campaigns in Portugal. Viktor Gyokeres is a more complete centre-forward and because he’s played for Coventry, Swansea and Brighton, the forward will take no time to settle down in the Premier League.
