Falcons Announce Unfortunate Update on Quarterback Kirk Cousins on Tuesday

As we get closer to the start of the 2025 NFL season, teams are beginning organized team activities.

The Atlanta Falcons have been an intriguing team to cover this offseason as they turn to second-year quarterback Michael Penix Jr. to lead their offense moving forward.

Their offense is full of young prospects like running back Bijan Robinson, wide receiver Drake London, and tight end Kyle Pitts.

At this time last year, they were being led by newly acquired quarterback Kirk Cousins as he was returning from an Achilles injury he sustained in the 2023 season.

Atlanta seemed to have moved on from Cousins after signing him to a four-year, $180 million deal in March of 2024.

In his first season on the Falcons' roster, Cousins played in 14 games and threw for 3,508 yards, 18 touchdowns, and 16 interceptions.

He was benched for then-rookie Michael Penix Jr. after a five-week stretch that saw him pass for just one touchdown and nine interceptions.

Kirk Cousins doesn't report to Falcons voluntary OTAs on Tuesday

Things have never worked out between Cousins and the Falcons since, and it doesn't look like things are changing as we are just over halfway through the 2025 offseason.

It's been reported that the veteran quarterback was absent from the team's voluntary OTAs on Tuesday, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Cousins is in the second year of his $180 million contract and it seems that he still wants to be a starting quarterback for a team in the NFL.
