Paul Mitchell, Newcastle United’s Director of Football, will step down from his role on 30th June after just one year at the club. Interestingly the Magpies may choose to not replace him, leaving manager Eddie Howe in charge of transfers, supported by Steve Nickson who occupies a similar role to Kyle Macaulay at [West Ham.](https://www.claretandhugh.info/west-ham-revenue-season-end-stats-reveal-true-picture/)
During his time at Tyneside, Mitchell failed to sign any meaningful players for the first team, largely due to financial restrictions imposed by the Premier Leagues Profit and Sustainability rules (PSR).
Prior to joining Newcastle, Mitchell held the position of Director of Football at Monaco from 2020 to 2024. He has also served in similar capacities at RB Leipzig, Southampton, Tottenham and Milton Keynes Dons.
Mitchell enjoys a strong relationship with West Ham icon Mark Noble. The two connected when Noble was first appointed Sporting Director at West Ham, with Mitchell hosting him in Monaco. They have maintained a close relationship ever since.
C&H have previously been informed by the club that West Ham’s transfer strategy will be led by Kyle Macaulay, Graham Potter and David Sullivan so despite the recent update it is highly unlikely this will change and that Mitchell will be considered for a role at West Ham.
