Report: Newcastle now want to sign ‘magical’ attacker this summer who Eddie Howe loves

Newcastle United could look to sign Marseille attacker Jonathan Rowe in the coming months, according to reports - with the English wideman being in Eddie Howe's sights ahead of a move in the summer transfer window after a stellar campaign in Ligue 1 on the French Riviera.

The Magpies are set for a huge summer transfer window, setting their sights on the likes of Joao Pedro, Arnaud Kalimuendo and more for their attacking ranks - whilst a right-winger is also in their sights to bolster their numbers going forward in what will be a second Champions League campaign in three years for the north-east outfit.

Appealing to many players on the continent, Howe will look to bolster his wide ranks after the departure of squad player Miguel Almiron in the summer months - and that could see them offer Rowe a return to England after he joined Marseille last summer.

The former Norwich City winger featured 13 times for the club in their Premier League relegation under Daniel Farke and Dean Smith in the 2021/22 campaign, and although he barely featured in the Championship the following year, the London-born star had his breakthrough in the 2023/24 campaign with four goals in his first four games for the Canaries.

Failure to win promotion saw Norwich sell him to Marseille, where he's had a strong campaign under Roberto de Zerbi - and that has affirmed Howe's viewpoint on the winger, with the report stating that he was a Newcastle target prior to his move to France and Howe 'hugely appreciates' him. Rowe has been called 'magical' in the past by his ex-Norwich teammates, and that could see him finally play Premier League football once again.

Newcastle want to sign the Englishman and are eyeing him closely to rival Jacob Murphy for starting spots, with Alexander Isak set to stay on Tyneside after their top-five finish, alongside English duo Harvey Barnes and Anthony Gordon competing for minutes on the left after arguably the club's greatest season in over half a century.
