Jose Mourinho has issued an update on his future following reports linking him with a return to English football, after a tumultuous season as Fenerbahce manager.

Likewise, his counterpart Ruben Amorim endured a disappointing first few months at Manchester United. As a result, Mourinho emerged as the bookmakers' favourite to replace the former Sporting Clube de Portugal boss in the Old Trafford dugout.

Mourinho also dismissed claims that he had held talks about taking over as Portugal’s new manager. "Yes, I can deny that I had any meeting with the Portuguese Football Federation. I am a loyal person," Mourinho said last week.

"The only time I had direct contact with a club I informed Fenerbahce. It wasn't now, it was in January. I had a meeting with the [unnamed] club. I didn't accept the offer. But I informed my club even before the meeting."

Fenerbahce, who have conceded the title to rivals Galatasaray, are currently 11 points behind them in the Super Lig with just one game remaining. After the 4-2 defeat to Hatayspor on Monday, the 'Special One' was quizzed about his future.

Mourinho said: "Our president trusts me, he already said that on the television. A few weeks ago, he said he wanted me to stay at the club.

"He trusts me and has always been very clear about it. If there has been any change, I haven't been told."

Meanwhile, Amorim is expected to remain in charge at Old Trafford, having reportedly received backing from club chiefs following a meeting in Monaco after the Europa League final defeat to Tottenham.
