After weeks of dialogue behind the scenes, talks with Wolves have progressed significantly, with Cunha now closing in on a move to Old Trafford.

The Brazilian forward, who stood out with 15 Premier League goals this season, has already agreed personal terms on a five-year deal, with the option of an additional year.

United are yet to formally trigger the £62.5 million release clause in his contract.

However, a medical is expected be scheduled in the coming days.

The hope within the club is to finalise the deal before June.

Thus, allowing Amorim to embed Cunha into pre-season from the outset as he begins to reshape the club’s attacking structure.

With Marcus Rashford’s future still uncertain and Jadon Sancho expected to depart, United are planning a more dynamic, high-pressing frontline.

Cunha is central to that vision.

Midway through his move to Manchester, the 25-year-old has now publicly addressed the man he’s expected to reunite with.

Matheus Cunha has his say on Ruben Amorim

Speaking to CNN Portugal via the Daily Mail, Cunha said:

“I think he’s a great coach and I wish him the best.

“I hope he conquers the world like he conquered Portugal. Together? God willing, I’ll do everything I can to help.”

The comments further confirm the strong relationship between player and manager, with Amorim believed to have personally pushed for Cunha’s arrival.

The Brazilian is widely expected to wear the No.10 shirt if Rashford departs, symbolising a possible changing of the guard in United’s frontline.

If all goes to plan, Cunha’s arrival will mark the first statement signing of the Ruben Amorim era.

The first piece in what could be a summer of sweeping change at Old Trafford.
