Orchard Park, N.Y. — [Buffalo Bills](https://www.syracuse.com/buffalo-bills/) running back James Cook was the only player who wasn’t in attendance for the start of the team’s Organized Team Activities (OTAs) on Tuesday, per coach Sean McDermott.
Cook has been campaigning for a new contract this offseason and has appeared on several podcasts to get the message across. He believes he’s worth $15 million per season but [Bills general manager Brandon Beane has said](https://www.syracuse.com/buffalo-bills/2025/03/did-james-cooks-negotiation-tactics-backfire-bills-gm-gives-extension-update.html) the two sides have not been able to land on a similar number.
“Yeah, we’re staying in touch,” Bills coach Sean McDermott said. “like you’d expect a player and a coach to do. So James will be here when he’s ready to be here and we’ll move forward.”
Buffalo extended four of Cook’s teammates earlier this offseason - three of which were drafted in the same class back in 2022. Linebacker Terrel Bernard, cornerback Christian Benford, wide receiver Khalil Shakir, and edge rusher Greg Rousseau all landed new deals. Cook is entering the final year of his rookie contract and Beane is on record saying he expects his running back to show up when it’s time and try to prove why he’s worth a big contract in 2025.
The Bills signed veteran pass rusher Joey Bosa this offseason but he won’t be available for the spring workouts after pulling a calf muscle last week during work at the facility. Bills coach Sean McDermott said that he expects Bosa to be ready for training camp.
“It is concerning,” McDermott said. “Durability, availability are key ties to our roster. And so we basically look ahead in terms of where we go now, just getting himself the treatment that he needs, and he’s working hard at it, and that’s all that he can control right now. And we get him back when we get him back, probably at this point training camp. So we’re going to do the best job we can. And I know he is as well, and take it one day at a time.”
