MN: Motta ‘standing out’ to Milan since Tare appointment – why an opportunity is in place

Before his move to Juventus, AC Milan were all over the idea of appointing Thiago Motta. A year on, that chance may arise.

Last summer, Milan hired Paulo Fonseca, whilst the Bologna coach headed to Turin to take on the Bianconeri job. Both coaches met their fate, though the latter certainly did better in his post than the Portuguese.

Now, as Milan News write, it could be the time for the pair to align. With the Old Lady, it was clear that Motta was not the right fit. In fact, it showed that there was a lot that needed to be done before he could be classed as an ‘elite’ coach.

The signs he showed so well with the Rossoblu faded, and new issues arose, with the coach being called one dimensional and key players publically disagreeing with him. As a result of that, though, the coach’s stock has fallen.

So, the Rossoneri could be gifted an opportunity.

There can be no forgetting the former midfielder’s work with young players, both in Bologna and Turin – a trait which would greatly appeal to RedBird and new sporting director Igli Tare. Then, he knows Serie A, which ticks a box, both as a player and a coach.

Finally, he knows how to work with different budget sizes, which the Diavolo would probably have over the next few years, depending on European qualification.

There are certainly elements which needed to be improved upon; his time with Juventus definitely showed as much. However, he could be the ‘safest profile’ for the rebuild of Milan, which may be why his stock is rising, more so in the past few days.
