Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Matheus Cunha is expected to be Manchester United's first signing of the summer transfer window
Matheus Cunha bids farewell to the Wolverhampton Wanderers supporters
Matheus Cunha has sent his support to Manchester United-linked defender and Wolverhampton Wanderers teammate Nelson Semedo after his emotional post on social media over the Bank Holiday weekend.
United are expected to complete a move for Cunha to kickstart their summer transfer window rebuild. MEN Sport understands that Ineos can activate the forward's release clause of £62.5m before selling players and the Brazilian is keen to move to Old Trafford.
This week, Semedo has been linked with United too as the right-back and current Wolves captain nears the end of his contract at Molineux. The 31-year-old could be seen as an option to allow Patrick Dorgu to play exclusively on the left flank and while Noussair Mazraoui has been favoured in the back three, Semedo could be seen as a good squad player to challenge Diogo Dalot.
Taking to Instagram on Bank Holiday Monday in the UK, Semedo admitted that his future was not certain amid speculation that United want him. He wrote: "Just want to thank you all for yesterday [Sunday] and for all your support during this season.
"It was a season with highs and lows, tough periods and great moments as well and that would be impossible without you guys supporting us during the year. We accomplished the main objective for this season but we have to set our ambitions as a club and go fight for them because trust me, all together we can do it.
"Time to rest, think and take a big decision with my family. I love you."
Among his teammates to reach out was Cunha, who liked the post, as did Semedo's fellow countrymen Dalot and Bruno Fernandes. Football Transfers understands that United's interest in Semedo could escalate quickly if he decides to leave the West Midlands club on a free transfer.
The Reds are thought to be keen to act on Semedo in the 'coming weeks'. The summer transfer window opens briefly on Sunday, June 1, before closing until June 10 and reopening on June 16 before closing for good on September 1.
