Viktor Gyokeres to Man United transfer latest as Sporting CP deliver major update

Viktor Gyokeres celebrates after winning the Portuguese Cup with Sporting CP

Viktor Gyokeres continues to be linked with a move to Manchester United

Sporting Clube de Portugal vice-president Francisco Salgado Zenha has issued a huge update on the future of Viktor Gyokeres amid links to Manchester United and Arsenal.

The Sweden international is heavily linked with a move to the Premier League this summer after just two seasons in Lisbon. It is believed that £60 million is likely to be enough for an exit to be sanctioned.

United have been keeping tabs on the prolific goalscorer since Ruben Amorim arrived at Old Trafford in November. However, they face fierce competition from the Gunners, who will be able to offer Champions League football next season.

During a press-conference, organised by Radio Renascenca's Bola Branca, Salgado Zenha discussed the Lions' ambitions for the upcoming transfer window. Inevitably, he was quizzed about Gyokeres and simply replied: "Gyokeres? He has three more years on his contract.

"At the moment, there are no offers. He has three more years on his contract. I think the answer has been given."

On the club's ambitions, he added: "It's not going to be different from last year. We want to keep the best players and retain talent. We want to continue being champions and having competitive teams and to fight on all fronts."

Although United remain admirers of the 27-year-old, Matheus Cunha has emerged as Ruben Amorim’s top target, with reports suggesting personal terms have already been agreed.

United are now expected to activate his £62.5m release clause, which will reportedly be paid in instalments.

Although a stay at Sporting appears highly unlikely, both Gyokeres' uncle and girlfriend have made it clear they would prefer him to remain at the club.

When asked about his future after winning the Portuguese cup, the striker said: "Let's see, it's football and we never know what might happen. To say something concrete is impossible.

"I don't know anything [about Arsenal's interest]. I tried to remain focussed in the last games. If anything is true, we'll see."
