'Conquers the world': Matheus Cunha has spoken about Ruben Amorim for the first time, with£62.5m Manchester United transfer imminent

Matheus Cunha’s move to Manchester United has felt nailed on for the past few months.

The Brazilian sensation has been tearing the Premier League apart for Wolves and is almost certain to be playing next season in red.

Adding Matheus Cunha is a move that could prove to be transformational for Ruben Amorim’s attack. This addition cannot come quickly enough, following a campaign in which Manchester United scored the fifth fewest goals in the league with 44.

Cunha alone scored more than a third of this for Wolves during the 2024-25 campaign with 15 strikes and 17 in all competitions, as his statistics from SofaScore show.

The 26-year-old brings goals and assists, while MUTV has already described Cunha as a ‘match-winner’, tipping Old Trafford to adore what the Brazil international has in his game. The deal is so good that even Jamie Carragher could not help but applaud United signing Cunha.

Cunha is expected to wear the number 10 shirt for United, having demanded the number during negotiations, viewing himself capable of overcoming the weight of the shirt.

Now, it has been revealed that Cunha dropped a pretty substantial hint that the transfer is done.

Matheus Cunha full of praise for Ruben Amorim

Cunha to United has seemed nailed on for a while, with Wolves’ previous visit to Old Trafford this season confirming it for many.

Cunha and Amorim were spotted acting friendly in the tunnel while Cunha was also seen in conversation for a few minutes with Casemiro.

Amorim said Cunha was a ‘quality player’ while reviewing the threat that Wolves offered.

However, now it has been Cunha’s turn to praise Amorim, as the Daily Mail has quoted CNN Portugal, to whom Cunha spoke on Sunday and was unsurprisingly asked about his potential new boss.

“Talking about him is easy,” Cunha explained about Amorim. “I think he’s a great coach and I wish him nothing but the best, I hope he conquers the world as he did Portugal.’

Following this, Cunha was asked ‘Conquer the world together at Manchester United?’, to which he had a clear response: “Well, God willing, we’ll always do our best to help.”

Manchester United agree Matheus Cunha deal

With the deal standing by at 95 per cent completed, reports on Tuesday now suggest the deal is done pending a medical.

This is according to David Ornstein, who tweeted on Tuesday night to confirm that United have met the terms of Cunha’s £62.5m release clause at Wolves.

Now, Wolves have given United permission to conclude the deal with Cunha and conduct his medical, which should see an announcement from the club in due course.
