Carlo Ancelotti’s first Brazil team includes Chelsea’s Andrey Santos and Estêvão Willian, a new beginning for the Seleção. Ancelotti, looking to refresh Brazil’s World Cup ambitions, has combined old-timers with new faces in his team.
Andrey Santos has clearly impressed in his loan period at Strasbourg, where he has netted 10 goals in 32 games. This has attracted some of the biggest clubs in Europe, such as Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain. Santos, who was the Brazil U20 captain, is set to receive his first senior cap.
Estêvão Willian has been Palmeiras’ leading performer with 10 goals in 29 games. The Blues acquired him for a reported fee of €34 million plus bonuses, and he is set to join up with their Club World Cup squad this summer. Estêvão has made four appearances for Brazil’s senior squad, making his debut in September 2024.
Carlo Ancelotti’s Brazil squad
Carlo Ancelotti officially started his work as Brazil national team coach by announcing a 25-player squad for the next 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Ecuador and Paraguay. The Italian tactician decided on a blend of veteran old guard and youngsters to revamp the squad.
In particular, Ancelotti brought back midfielder Casemiro, who has spent two years out of the national team. The team also has other long-time members like Alisson, Vinícius Júnior, and Richarlison. Notably, Ancelotti has selected gifted young stars like Chelsea’s Andrey Santos and Estevão Willian.
But the squad announcement had also brought shocks, in the form of Neymar and Rodrygo omissions. Ancelotti said he has chosen players who are “good shape,” preferring those that can deliver their best from the beginning.
Brazil are fourth in the South American World Cup qualifiers and. With direct qualification to the top six clubs, the team has away matches against Ecuador on June 5 and Paraguay at home on June 10. Ancelotti’s first games are regarded as important steps towards Brazil’s sixth World Cup title.
