Chelsea are on the hunt for a new goalkeeper this summer, and that could mean uncertainty for established No. 1 Robert Sanchez. The Blues are reportedly more likely than ever to sign a new stopper after earning a Champions League spot on the last day of the Premier League season.
Sanchez, who was a £25 million signing from Brighton in 2023, has come under fire for his sometimes questionable performances. Manager Enzo Maresca has stated that Sanchez needs to do “far better” and is “still far, far away from where I need him to be.”
Chelsea shortlist a fresh goalkeeper to include Borussia Dortmund’s Gregor Kobel, whose agent will fly into London next week to discuss with the Blues. Liverpool’s Caoimhin Kelleher and Lille’s Lucas Chevalier are also options that the club are monitoring. The Blues are also thinking about selling Sanchez if the right offer comes in.
Aside from that, Chelsea have Filip Jorgensen, and Belgian youth Mike Penders will come in June 2025.
Chelsea Keep Seeking Forward Options as Ekitike, Delap, Sesko Lead Race
Chelsea are making a transfer for a new striker prior to the 2025/26 season, after qualification for the Champions League. The club is considering different options to strengthen the attacking department.
Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitike is the target at the top of the list. The 22-year-old French striker has impressed with 22 goals and 12 assists from 48 appearances this season. Liam Delap is one of those in contention. The 22-year-old Ipswich Town striker has a release clause of £30 million, which has been triggered by his club’s relegation.
Delap’s past familiarity with Enzo Maresca when they were at Manchester City’s youth academy could be advantageous to him. His destiny will soon be decided, with the Blues said to be leading the charge for his services. RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko is also an option. Slovenian international Sesko netted 26 goals this season and has a release fee of £62 million.
