Manchester United are on the brink of signing Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers, with the star set to move to Old Trafford any day now.

The deal has already received the Fabrizio Romano seal of approval, with his signature “here we go” announcing it’s as good as done.

Now, United are just settling the final details with Wolves over the £62.5 million release clause, whilst Cunha has already agreed personal terms.

It’s understood that United are looking to pay the release clause in three instalments of £20.85 million over a two year period, helping to lessen an immediate financial impact of the deal.

Manchester United show key role for Matheus Cunha with wage and shirt number

The Telegraph have reported that Cunha is set for a hefty wage rise as part of his terms to move to Old Trafford, as he’s expected to play a key role in Amorim’s side.

Already United have agreed to give the Brazil international the number 10 shirt, showing the intent they have for their priority summer signing.

As such, his wage is also highly reflective of this.

Whilst the striker was earning £120,000 per week with Wolves, his new United wage is set to increase by two-thirds to £200,000 per week.

Despite this being a big jump up for the striker, it’s still fairly low in comparison to some United wages, showing INEOS determination to reduce the wages at the club.

Players like Marcus Rashford, Casemiro and Antony all earn in excess of £300,000 per week, with United likely to try and offload the trio this summer to generate funds and capacity for their summer squad rebuild.
