This weekend saw the end of the Premier League season as Manchester United beat Aston Villa 2-0, however it also saw the final protest of the season from The 1958.
The supporters group have been holding protests throughout the season, standing up against the Glazers’ ownership of the club and fighting against the steps INEOS are taking to compensate for the years of financial mismanagement of the club.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe has been making several controversial cost-cutting and money-generating exercises to make the club financially sustainable, with the interest on the Glazer debt continuing to impact the club.
One such exercise is to convert the season ticket holders’ area by the dug-outs to a hospitality area, allowing the club to market VIP hospitality packages.
This move is what The 1958 were targeting in the protest at the Villa game, with supporters having tickets in that area mainly holding season tickets for decades as the first zone at Old Trafford to be allocated to season ticket holders.
Now The Daily Mail has reported that Manchester United legend Norman Whiteside is one such season ticket holder set to lose out.
Whiteside joined the United squad from the reserves back in 1982 and spent seven years at the club playing under Ron Atkinson and Sir Alex Ferguson.
During this time, the attacking midfielder made 259 appearances for The Red Devils, with 63 goals and six assists to his name, including scoring the winning goal in the 1985 FA Cup final against Everton to win 1-0 in extra time.
Now, Whiteside and his wife Denise have revealed they have been “forcibly relocated” with the seats no longer available for renewing season tickets.
