Ranking Timothée Chalamet’s Courtside Knicks Looks

Timothée Chalamet is a proud New Yorker, and he loves his New York Knicks. The actor has been sitting courtside at NBA games since 2019, and his dedication came into fuller focus when he ditched this year’s Met Gala to watch the Knicks take on the Celtics. Since then, he’s been at nearly every game in scene-stealing outfits, begging the question: Is he coming for Spike Lee’s title as the Knicks-lovingest celebrity? Impossible, but Knicks fans love it, and so do we. And he really has been wearing some good fits! (Including a whole lot of Chrome Hearts, which is maybe Kylie’s influence.) We ranked all of his playoff looks based on how many claps I’d offer as I stood and screamed my support at him. Let’s go!

Knicks vs. Pacers, Game 3

This Guy Fieri look is doing something for me. It might also have done something for the Knicks, because Timmy wore it at the first game they won in the Eastern finals despite being on the road after a pair of losses. Both Chalamet’s dedication to the team (traveling to Indiana) and his spiked-up hairstyle and indoor shades are ten out of ten for me.

Ranking: A standing ovation so loud you could hear it in Flavortown.

Timberlands have been a New York style staple since the ’90s, and Chalamet is claiming them as a signature part of his Knicks looks. These custom Chrome Hearts x Knicks Timbs elevate his commitment to this whole shtick. The tracksuit is just all right — which is okay, because the shoes steal the show here.

Ranking: Like ten claps and a wolf whistle (but the whistle is for his seatmate in the butterfly jeans).

Knicks vs. Pacers, Game 2

This look is respectable but boring. The backwards hat is cute.

Ranking: A few polite golf claps.

I thought this was Pete Davidson at first, which is maybe or maybe not shade. It’s fine.

Ranking: One clap.

The more I look at this, the more it works for me. Should it? Definitely not. But it’s memorable, that’s for sure, especially as your eyes settle on the suede Timbs after a few seconds.

Ranking: A single clap, a pause, and then ten additional claps.

Knicks vs. Celtics, Game 4

This look reminds me of all the gorgeous masc lesbians at a New York Liberty game, so I am here for it. It’s classic, it’s easy, and it was perfect when accompanied by Kylie’s all-black outfit. Untied Timbs beside high heels = a timeless image of New York romance.

Ranking: Whatever the hat-tip thing he’s doing here is.

As for game four, who knows what to expect? Hopefully a Knicks win and another opportunity for Chalamet to surprise us. I’d really love to see him in some Marty Supreme–style looks in Indiana.
