Broncos QB Bo Nix slotted in oddly low on PFF quarterback rankings for 2025

Denver Broncos QB Bo Nix had a strong finish to his rookie campaign, leading the team to a 10-7 record and its first playoff berth since 2015.

But he’s still not getting the amount of respect one would expect entering the 2025 season.

Just a few weeks after CBS Sports ranked Nix as the 15th best quarterback in the NFL, Pro Football Focus is coming in with an even harsher grade.

PFF’s John Kosko has Bo Nix as the 19th ranked QB in the NFL. He’s behind the likes of Geno Smith (10th), Trevor Lawrence (16th) and Tua Tagovailoa (18th).

And the explanation from Kosko for his ranking is a little flimsy, writing the following based on PFF grades which the popular website has become known for:

After a rocky start, including three sub-50.0 game grades in his first four outings, Nix found his footing, posting an 85.7 overall grade the rest of the way, sixth-best in the league over that span.

Yes, Nix’s first four professional games weren’t great, and he didn’t throw his first TD pass until Week 4 against the New York Jets. But the month of September is enough to bump him all the way to 19th? When Kosko himself admits Nix was the sixth best QB in the NFL over the final 13 contests?

That doesn’t exactly add up.

And Bo Nix had season-long numbers that were solid.

He was sixth in the NFL in touchdown passes with 29 and 12th in the league in yards, throwing for nearly 3,800 of them. It’s hard to figure out how that means he’s ranked 19th heading into this season.

Around the AFC West, PFF has Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes at No. 1, Chargers signal-caller Justin Herbert at No. 8 and the aforementioned Smith with the Raiders at No. 10.

Whatever. The games will be decided on the field, not by preseason QB rankings, but there’s no doubt Bo Nix is slotted in unfairly low on this list.
