Manchester United’s summer transfer window is set to be a vital one for the club as they look to bounce back in their first full season under Ruben Amorim.

However, the INEOS recruitment strategy isn’t solely focused on players who can have an instant impact in the senior squad, but also who can lead the Red Devils of tomorrow.

Over the last two windows United have signed Leny Yoro, Ayden Heaven and Patrick Dorgu with both factors in mind having youth on their side whilst also performing at senior level.

The Red Devils have also signed the likes of Chido Obi, Sekou Kone, Enzo Kana-Biyik and Diego Leon, who haven’t and won’t feature immediately in United’s squad, but will be integrated over time, with Obi being introduced due to the ongoing injury crisis at Carrington.

However, following this model of recruitment, Manchester United are reportedly leading the race to sign Harley Emsden-James from Southampton.

Manchester United lead race for Harley Emsden-James

The 16-year-old centre-back is highly-rated and already plays for England’s national youth side, making him an exciting target for The Red Devils.

Now, CentreDevils can reveal that United have held talks with the youngster, which have been reported as going positively.

Whilst nothing is fully confirmed as of yet, it appears a plan is in place for Emsden-James to join the United academy with a compensation fee of £1 million being paid to Southampton for the transfer.

It’s also understood that Jason Wilcox is pushing for the move after being aware of the young defender from his time at Southampton before joining United as technical director.

However, United aren’t the only ones fighting for his signature, with Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur all wanting to sign the youngster.

Ultimately United will be hoping they can continue leading the race to add yet another impressive young talent to the ranks of the next class of Red Devils.
