A Liverpool fan caught up in a harrowing incident during the Reds' victory parade has shared his terrifying account after being hit by a car that ploughed into a throng of supporters. Jack Trotter, one of over 50 individuals hospitalised as a result of the Monday evening mayhem in Liverpool city centre, endured back injuries from being "clipped" by the vehicle on Water Street.

Subsequently, a 53 year old man was detained on suspicion of attempted murder, dangerous driving offences and driving while under the influence of drugs. Reliving the nightmare to Sky News, Jack, from Newtownards, County Down, recalled: "I was just having a ball and singing away, and then I didn't know anything was happening until I heard someone screaming my name."

He added: "When it sort of got to my level, the car had slowed down and I put my hands up, sort of to protect myself but also to try to say to him 'stop'... I managed to sort of dodge the bonnet but he was able to clip my legs. My back has completely gone now.

A white British man from Liverpool’s West Derby area remains under interrogation.

Addressing the situation, Merseyside Police’s Assistant Chief Constable, Jenny Sims, explained that "It is believed the driver of the Ford Galaxy car involved in this incident was able to follow an ambulance onto Water Street after the road block was temporarily lifted so that the ambulance crew could attend to a member of the public who was having a heart attack. There was no intelligence to suggest an incident of this nature would take place."

Detectives from the Merseyside Constabulary are presently gathering statements from witnesses, those injured, individuals present at the scene, and emergency responders to assemble a detailed account of the incident.
