Tottenham-linked Lyon star Rayan Cherki wanted by Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City
Tottenham Hotspur are set to make changes to their squad when the transfer window reopens next month.
The Lilywhites endured a difficult Premier League season, finishing 17th in the table after 22 losses in 38 games. They did manage to redeem it to some extent by winning the UEFA Europa League trophy in Bilbao last week. Ange Postecoglou’s boys beat Manchester United 1-0 in the final to claim the club’s first piece of silverware after 17 years.
The forthcoming summer transfer window presents the North Londoners an opportunity to bolster several areas of their current squad. A creative midfielder has to be priorities owing to the problems Spurs faced to unlock rigid defences in the absences of James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski. Perhaps, this has seen them being heavily linked with a move for Lyon star Rayan Cherki.

Lyon seeking around €22 million for Rayan Cherki amid Tottenham interest
Rayan Cherki has just concluded his best season in a Lyon shirt. The Frenchman has been considered as one of the best young talents across the European continent for some time, but he finally exploded this term with 12 goals and 20 assists in 44 appearances. This has seen him catch the eye of several Premier League clubs such as Manchester United, Liverpool and Tottenham.
However, there is now a new entrant in the race for the talented playmaker’s signature. According to an exclusive report from The Telegraph, Manchester City have joined the mix to sign Cherki from Lyon.
Cherki has confirmed he will leave his boyhood club this summer, sparking interest from Premier League clubs and other leagues. He has a release clause in his contract of around £20-25 million, which has been the reason for attraction across Europe.

For Daniel Levy, he has to ensure that Tottenham can offer not just financials of a possible transfer but also a clear pathway for Cherki’s development. Given how the players have succeeded under Pep Guardiola at Man City and won multiple trophies, it could end up being a significant draw for Cherki.

While there have been question marks over Ange Postecoglou’s future and his project at White Hart Lane, the Australian head coach has shown his ability to integrate a playing style that revolves massively around the maverick French youth international and his strengths. Given his talent and potential, competition for his signature is constantly growing.
Man City are the latest entrant in the race to sign the Lyon ace. That said, Levy must act quickly if we are genuinely interested in bringing Cherki to White Hart Lane this summer, and Champions League football could be a big draw for him.
