Man United midfielder Bruno Fernandes could be leaving Old Trafford in the summer window.
Man United are going to need to sell several top players this summer in order to help fund a squad rebuild after what was their worst season in the Premier League era.
Ruben Amorim will have a busy transfer window as he needs to improve his squad in all areas of the pitch, notably a goalkeeper, centre-midfielder and a striker. However, to do that, they will need to make some tough decisions.
Manchester United urged to sell Bruno Fernandes
Reports emerged last week suggesting that Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal could come in with a £100 million offer for Fernandes, funds that could all but provide United with a complete rebuild this summer alongside potential sales of Marcus Rashford, Antony and Jadon Sancho.
Fernandes has been superb this season, scoring 19 goals and providing 20 assists this season. He was virtually the only bright spark in a poor Man United side this year under Amorim. However, amid the news of a potential move to Al-Hilal, former Premier League striker Tony Cascarino has urged United to sell Fernandes, and has said that the club should try and persuade the Portugal international to move to the Saudi Pro League.
He said on TalkSPORT: “I would snap their hand off. It’s time for a number of big decisions to be made and he’s one of them. If they’re getting offered £100m for a 30-year-old, you take it. You absolutely take it.
“It’s money that you’ve got to use very wisely on people that you’ve identified to bring in. I’d take it immediately. If that was the offer, I think Man United would even have to push him a bit [towards the move] and say ‘we’re looking in a different direction now.’”
Bruno Fernandes says he wants to stay at United
He said: “I have always been honest. I’ve always said I will be here until the club says to me that it’s time to go. I’m eager to do more, to be able to bring the club the great days. In the day that the club thinks that I’m too much or it’s time to part ways, football is like this, you never know it. But I’ve always said it, and I keep my word in the same way.”
However, despite Fernandes’ desires to stay, he did say that if the club wanted him to leave, then he would. Meaning that United could say to Fernandes that they want to take the £100m windfall from Al-Hilal, telling him to leave the club.
He added: “If the club thinks it’s time to part ways because they want to do some cashing in or whatever, it’s what it is, and football sometimes is like that.”
