Sga silences critics with 40-point explosion in Game 4 road win

If you’re a sports fan and have spent any time on the internet over the past weeks, you’ve all but certainly been exposed to the harsh criticism of former [Kentucky Wildcats](https://www.aseaofblue.com) superstar Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.

SGA’s ability to draw fouls on defenders and get himself to the free-throw line has triggered basketball enthusiasts across the globe. Many of his critics rejoiced after the Thunder were demolished by the Timberwolves in game 3 when Gilgeous-Alexander was granted a playoff-low four free throws.

Like he’s done all season long, the league MVP silenced the haters with his superb play on Monday night. After only scoring 14 points in game 3, Gilgeous-Alexander poured in a whopping 40 points on the road as the Thunder snatched a commanding 3-1 series lead from Minnesota.

12 of his 40 points came by way of the charity stripe. If you watched the game, you know that fans in attendance were highly emotional about every single call that went SGA’s way. The narrative around his ability to control the whistle has become a national story and is undoubtedly on the minds of his opponents.

“The way I see it, the fans are going to do whatever they can do to help their team and knock me off my game being the head of the snake of our team. That’s their job. That’s what creates homecourt advantage. That’s what created a fanbase and energy in the building,” Gilgeous-Alexander said about the FT merchant chants. “They want the Timberwolves to win. They don’t want the Thunder to win. I expect nothing else. In terms of the label, I don’t care. I never cared. I’ve said this before, I shot more free throws in other seasons I did than this season. I think because we’re on top of everybody’s radar, it’s a little bit more noticeable. Now people care about it. I kinda see it as a compliment.” SGA said after the Thunder’s 128-126 victory.

Whether you love his game or hate it, there’s no denying that Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is a man with a plan. His calculated approach to the offensive end of the floor has translated into MVP honors, and the Thunder are now just one game away from the [NBA Finals](https://www.sbnation.com/nba-finals).

Oklahoma City will take on Minnesota at home Wednesday night at 8:30 ET.
