ANDONI Iraola was happy for Ryan Christie as he picked up two supporter player of the season awards on the final day of the season.

Christie was crowned the Micky Cave/Daily Echo player of the season, as well as winning AFC Bournemouth’s club supporters’ award.

It was a well-deserved award for the Scot, who was a key part of much of what the Cherries did well throughout what was a record-breaking campaign for the club.

'A privilege': Christie thrilled to win Micky Cave/Daily Echo player of the year

Christie admitted some surprise in receiving the award, telling the Daily Echo that he felt others deserved it more than he did, but said he felt privileged to be voted for the trophy by Echo readers.

And Iraola said it was good that Christie received recognition for his efforts throughout the season.

“Very happy for him,” he said, when asked about Christie’s awards.

“I think it's good that these kinds of players also receive their recognition because sometimes we only focus in the ones who score goals.

“And players like Ryan are key for every team.

“For us, the two years that I've been here with him has been amazing performance wise and also his personality, his work rate and I'm happy for him.”
