The Manchester United squad checks in ahead of their flight to Kuala Lumpur for the first stage of their post-season tour
Manchester United have flown out to Asia for two post-season friendlies
Manchester United's fixture against ASEAN All-Stars this afternoon might not set too many pulses racing but it could prove pivotal for seven Reds stars.
Ruben Amorim's side have jetted to Asia for two post-season friendly fixtures with today's game in Kuala Lumpur the first ahead of Friday's encounter with Hong Kong.
United flew immediately after their 2-0 Premier League win over Aston Villa on Sunday and are expected to rake in around £8million from the jaunt.
Amorim has taken a squad of 32 and while some players might not be relishing the prospect of two friendlies on the back of a disappointing season and with international fixtures around the corner, it offers a vital chance for seven United youngsters to showcase themselves.
The Reds have taken their senior stars but minutes are likely to be handed out to the majority of the squad and that could offer opportunities to a clutch of teenagers to stake a claim for involvement in the squad next season.
The likes of Chido Obi, Harry Amass and Tyler Fredricson have already made their first team debuts and shown the pathway on offer to their fellow Academy prospects.
Godwill Kukonki has been involved in the matchday squad on several occasions but the 17-year-old is yet to make his debut. He is highly rated at Old Trafford and the centre back is left-footed, which offers a vital option.
Fellow defender Reece Munro has also travelled with the 18-year-old capable of playing in the middle of the back four or at full back. Born in London, he has caught the eye at Under-18 level.
Jaydon Kamason was one of the unsung heroes of United's run to the FA Youth Cup semi-finals with the 18-year-old right back shining in the thrashing of Chelsea in the last 16 and scoring in the quarter final win over Arsenal.
Centre midfield pair Jack Moorhouse, 19, and Jim Thwaites, 17, have both been called upon. The former has been on the bench for United this term while Thwaites has caught the eye in the academy with his set-piece prowess particularly eye-catching.
Shea Lacey has also travelled after an injury hit campaign. He has penned a professional contract with United and is highly rated. He's predominately played on the right wing, but coaches in the academy like to challenge youngsters in different positions across the attack and the 18-year-old is versatile.
Then there is Tyler Fletcher, son of former United general Darren. The number 10, like twin brother Jack, switched to Old Trafford from Manchester City and is a cultured playmaker who will be keen to show his credentials should Amorim afford him the opportunity.
