Man United are prepared to accept offers for Kobbie Mainoo when the transfer window opens, according to their former chief scout.

Mick Brown, who worked at Old Trafford for over a decade during the club’s most successful period and remains very well-connected there, exclusively told Football Insider that talk at the club has revolved around which clubs might be interested.

Meanwhile, Ruben Amorim does not see the 20-year-old fitting into his long-term plans and is prepared to see him leave over the off-season.

This comes after Brown told Football Insider revealed in March that Man United will accept £70million bids for Mainoo as they plan to raise significant funds from his sale.

They then plan to reinvest the money into the first-team squad as they are determined not to weaken Amorim’s options ahead of the new season.

Meanwhile, Brown told Football Insider in February that Man United plan to sell Mainoo to help dig them out of a financial hole under INEOS’ guidance.

Man United could sell Kobbie Mainoo despite warnings

Brown told Football Insider in January that Man United should not sell Mainoo under any circumstances despite ongoing speculation about his future.

Now, the former scout who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment and also worked for the likes of Tottenham and Aston Villa, has insisted he would not be open to the sale, but neither the club nor Amorim share his viewpoint.

“Man United are ready to let Kobbie Mainoo go,” he told Football Insider.

“He’s been in and out of the team this season and didn’t sign the new contract they offered.

“If it were up to me, they would be holding on to Mainoo at all costs.

“I think he’s a top-class midfielder who could start for Man United and for England for the foreseeable future, and he’s come out of the academy.

“But that’s not the way the club sees it and not the way Amorim sees it.

“I don’t think Amorim sees him fitting in with his system and how he wants to play.

“After missing out on the Champions League, they might have to sell.

“The talk at the club is more about what sort of fee they could get for him and where he’s going to go.

*“The money needs to be enough that they can find a replacement because you can’t keep letting people go if you haven’t got people coming in.*“

Alejandro Garnacho update emerges after ‘upset’ claim

Mainoo is not the only United academy product who could be allowed to leave Old Trafford this summer, amid speculation about Alejandro Garnacho.

Brown told Football Insider on 27 May that Amorim is forcing Garnacho out of the club and has been aiming to shift the 20-year-old for “months”.

The winger is said to have been left “upset” after he was left out of the starting XI in the Europa League final, and was banished from the squad on the final day of the season.

This comes after Football Insider revealed on 24 May that Garnacho could quit Man United after growing unhappy about his treatment under Amorim.
